Baldwin-Rolfe Hill Climb Trophy
7 KM Ascent

Glorious weather conditions (although a little chilly) met a record field of 31 intrepid riders as they attacked the Baldwin-Rolfe Hill Climb on Saturday. Last years winner with a time differential of 15 seconds, Helen Green, was back to defend her title and showed some real consistency with a 13 second time differential this time around but incredibly that was only good enough for 6th place overall.

An unheard of deadheat with a difference of just 1 second between their guesses and actual times meant that Billy Griffiths and Gary Rolfe took joint honours this year and are the inaugural winners of the new perpetual trophy. Both names will be engraved on the trophy and Rolfey has generously decided that the trophy will sit in Billys hands for the next 12 months. Gary also followed on from a 2nd place in the event last year. Gary won the major prize money on a countback system decided upon at the start of the race.

Gregg Berry was a very unlucky 3rd with just a 2 second difference which would have won any other event we have ever held under these conditions. Greg had a very profitable day taking home one of the many lucky barrel prizes kindly donated by Hammer n' Cycle of Queanbeyan for this years event.

Although there were no prizes for fastest up the hill, a very interesting tussle between Stu Bardsley, Trevor Fairhurst and young superchamp Elliot Wise ensued with Stu taking honours by just 3 seconds with a time of 13.37, Elliot 2nd on 13.40 and Trev 3rd with 14mins flat. Fastest lady up the mountain was Jen Dixon who obviously surprised herself with a time of 15.49 after guessing it would take 18.30 and with it, taking the dubious honour of worst guesser for the day :) Julie Quinn was second with 17.14 (after running 60km last weekend) and Melissa Tipping 3rd with 17.54.

Huge thankyous go to Hammer n Cycle for the barrel prizes, Fiona McWhinnie, Shane Maundrell and Libby Adamson for volunteering their services on a cold morning to ensure the race could go ahead, along with the half dozen people who also emailed me saying they could help after I sent the email out - very much appreciated.

Tie on time, 1st place to Gary Rolfe, 2nd Billy Griffiths on countback
(if difference from guess equal, then faster than guess beats slower than guess).

Prize pool was divided ($5 per competitor) $90, $45, $20 in order of closest
guesses
