Bilbys began in 1987 in Canberra, Australia, when a group of individuals (mainly firemen) formed an informal training group to pursue their goals in the sport of triathlon. The club takes its name from the bilby, an Australian marsupial (noted for its speed, cunning and agility (NOT!) according to our founding members). The club has donated money raised from some of our trivia nights to the Save the Bilby Fund as a show of support to our little mascot.

The club has grown year after year and today boasts around 380 financial members including a strong junior contingent. Our highly successful novice program attracts around 85 new members each year looking to get into this awesome sport. Some of our members are the best in their field in the ACT, and across the country boasting at least one world champion and many placegetters at national and international level including an Ironman Japan winner.

The club has a consistent year round training schedule and club gear including race and training gear in the club colours of blue and yellow.

Bilbys caters for all levels and for individuals who want to improve their performance in all or a combination of the three triathlon disciplines. We also have a lot of members who do events such as rogaining, orienteering, paddling, mountain biking and multi-sport races. So you don't have to be a triathlete to come and train with us!

We also run club events where winners are the people who can best guess their times. We have an annual hill climb, fun run, and aquathlon. These events are good fun, and very popular due to the cash prizes for the winners as well as awesome barrel prizes up for grabs.

Bilbys Triathlon Club is officially affiliated with Triathlon ACT (www.triathlonact.com.au).

Travelling Bilbys have been invited to train with with Bayside Tri Club in Melbourne and ALV Mainz Triathlon club in Germany (more information is on the Membership page).

But all sport and no play can make for a dull club. Bilbys holds an annual Christmas Party, an awards night cocktail party and pizza nights for members, their family and friends.  The success of the club depends on the contribution of its members, who are encouraged to have fun and contribute to its activities.

Bilbys also holds a Christmas Party (usually) in conjunction with our World Championship aquathlon, an annual awards night, and pizza nights.

In recent years the club has also entered a team in local fundraising events Relay for Life (for the Cancer Council) and the 24 hour Mega Swim for MS Australia.
