2009 Farrell - Marshall fun run wrap up PDF Print E-mail

On Sunday 1 November 2009, approximately 40 Bilbys braved the heat to take part in the 2009 Farrell-Marshall fun run. This fun run is an annual Bilbys only event where the winner is the person who can best guess the time it will take to run the course.

The 5km and 10km runs started in the car park of Big Splash Water Park in Jamison and went along the bike path up towards the Cook bushlands. Runners were sent off in a handicap format based on their time estimates.

Before long our last runner was in, and Bilbys were scattered around the car park drinking water, socialising and stretching in the shade. While Amy and her team were calculating the results, we had the ever popular barrell draw, with a stack of great prizes donated by our sponsors the Runners Shop.

Then it was time for the business end of the run: the results! Michele Clement took home a refund of $5 and a drink bottle for her troubles as the worst guessor of the day. Accompanying the very pregnant Julia on a 5km walk, Michele was over 7 minutes faster than her estimated time. Third place went to Garry Stevens, Second place went to one of our novice program participants, Jeremy, and the big bucks for first place went to Bilbys regular Emma Fielder - an amazing 5 seconds outside her estimate for her 10km run.

We had a great turn out for the post event bbq at Canberra Southern Cross Club, Jamison.

A big thank you to all the helpers on the day: Megan Rhind, Amy Kingham, Kim Crawley, Mary Sietsma, Gary Rolfe and Garry Stevens.

We are looking forward to seeing you all again at next year's event.
