Race Directors wanted

Fellow Bilbys

You may not have seen a request from Triathlon ACT for potential Race Operations Managers - see http://res.au.eventdirector.net/TACT/SITES/68/ZUSER/Race%20Operation%20Managers%20and%20Commentators.pdf

TACT is seriously short of ROMs (Race Directors), having this year lost two of its stalwarts in Garry Muir and Garry Stevens, along with two others. While we have this season covered, our remaining ROMs of which I am one, are very keen to train some new triathletes in this endeavour.

In previous years, the task of a ROM has included plenty of heavy lifting. However, this year we are ensuring that ROMs are there to design and organise events, specifically not to do the physical stuff on site. As such we are hoping to obtain interest from those of you who enjoy event management, and/or want to give it a try in tri's!

I'm happy to answer any questions you have via this forum, or on my email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or by telephone 6271 1309. Additionally there is a function for prospective new ROMs as per the TACT flyer linked above, on Wednesday 3rd August at 530pm at the TACT office in Deakin.

I'd be delighted to hear from you!

Volunteering for the 2011-12 season

Hi everyone

The Bilbys triathlon club is only here because of members who volunteer. This includes on the committee, at club events, and helping the club earn income through timing for Triathlon ACT and the aid station for the half ironman in Canberra each year.

We currently have about 100 financial members, by the end of the year that is more likely to be around 300. If everyone volunteers just once, then this will reduce the strain on members, and also reduce the amount of nagging emails you wil receive seeking volunteers.

In the near future I will put a table up on the website showing where we need volunteers.

In the meantime we are looking for people to help with the timing for the Winter Sports Fest on 27 and 28 August. Info about the event is here: http://res.au.eventdirector.net/TACT/SITES/1639/default.asp?PageID=21482

Please email me if you can help out.

Cheers

Jess

2011 Bilbys Baldwin-Rolfe Hill Climb Wrap Up

On 16 July 2011 26 Bilbys braved the winter weather to take part in the annual Bilbys Baldwin-Rolfe Hill Climb, an event named after Bilbys Life Members David Baldwin and Gary Rolfe which has participants climbing approximately 5km up Washing Machine Hill (aka the Old Federal Highway which includes a hill which used to have washing machines on the side of the road).  Committee members Kym Hughes, Amy Kingham and Erin Barry were on hand to do registration and the timing.

Like all Bilbys club events, particpants had to guess their times, with the best guessor taking home $100 donated by the club, and the entry money is pooled to give as cash prizes to other place getters. As usual things were pretty competitive with place getters only guessing seconds outside their actual times.

After the hill climb, cyclists regrouped in Ainslie to enjoy a fundraiser breakfast for Hartley Lifecare put on by committee member Michele Clement and her very capable team. Here we did the presentation for the event, as well as draw our lucky door prizes, which were Bilbys clothing vouchers (designed by Downie Design), a range of products from the Bike Shed, and a massage voucher for Ian Ingram Tri-Synery massage.

Last place this year went to Pam Faulks who won her money back so she can try again next year. Some of the other participants were much better at guessing their times with winner Alan Lloyd taking home $100 for being a mere one second outside his actual time. John Douglas won $75 for being only three seconds out, and Gary Rolfe took home $49 for being four seconds out. Full results are listed below.

A big thanks to all the participants, our helpers and sponsors for making the event a success.
