Cycling: What will the Politicians DO? - Election Forum - 7 Oct
==============================================If cycling is something you believe in, come along and stand up for it. It is so important that our politicians see how many people value cycling and the importance it plays to many individuals, our community and the environment - here is an opportunity to raise concerns, ask questions, and even to say thank you (after all, we do have some pretty good on road cycling lanes, bike paths, and facilities such as Stromlo!).This information is from the Pedal Power website: http://www.pedalpower.org.au/news/index.asp
Nelli and I will be heading along on Tuesday night, and all other Bilbys are welcome to join us, but if you can't make it and have something you would like us to bring up at the meeting email nelli.noakes at bilbys.org
ACT Elections and Pedal Power Do you want politicians to do more to make cycling easy and safe? Do you want gaps in the cycling network fixed, our bike paths properly maintained and cycling better recognised and catered for?Then come along to the Pedal Power Election Forum to hear what politicians will do for cycling, and to question them. If you only turn up to one cycling event this year, then make it this one!Six times Tour de France cyclist, Stephen Hodge, will chair the meeting. With a tight ACT election forecast, attend this meeting to show politicians that people who cycle also vote! Bring all your cycling friends, and put this in your diary now.When: Tuesday 7 October at 7.30pmWhere: Pilgrim House, Corner of Northbourne Avenue and Rudd Street, Civic.Please pass this information on to your cycling friends and associates!
Stromlo Ladies Night
===============As an exciting opening to the summer racing season, the first annual Stromlo Ladies Night will be held on Wednesday 22 October at Stromlo Forest Park. This is a full evening DEDICATED to women's racing, from complete beginners to elite A grade riders. Powered by Funky Brew Coffee, the racing will be fast, fun and exciting! From 5:30pm there will be a come 'n' try event which is open to women and girls from 14 years upwards, with any type of bike. This will be twenty minutes of basic skills to get you riding around the track with others safely, then you will get to test your new skills on the track at the same time as C grade (though starting separately). So come on everyone and support women's racing. If you're a woman who hasn't raced, think about getting out there to give it a go. If you're a bloke, how about convincing the women in your life to have a ride, or just turn up to watch and cheer on the girls. Sponsors Corner – Canberra Southern Cross Club
======================================
Canberra Southern Cross Club (CSCC) have come on board as one of Bilbys major financial sponsors with their takeover of Wests Rugby Club. As part of the agreement between the Bilbys and Wests Rugby club we receive the following:
§ cash sponsorship
§ they have given us free room hire for the novice dinners, membership sign-on days, information nights, trivia nights and other functions we have had their over the last 2 years.
§ they have also provided us with a free room for our committee meetings.
In return all they ask for is patronage. CSCC has clubs at 7 venues across Canberra, including the old Wests clubs. While CSCC does not offer memberships to their clubs, it is strongly encouraged that all Bilbys join the club to repay the support they provide us.
Their sponsorship allows us to offer club clothing at discounted rates and purchase items such as the club tent.
