> Bilby’s require volunteers for Canberra 70.3 Aid Station – Sunday 11 December
>
> It's on again ...
>
> The twelfth anniversary of Canberra 70.3 (formerly Canberra City Half Ironman) Triathlon will be held on Sunday, 11 December. In past years Bilbys have run one of the aid stations for the run leg of this event at Acton Ferry Terminal. The Bilbys aid station is well renowned for its excellent service and encouragement provided by our marvellous volunteers. As such, we will again be providing our legendary run aid station, at the same location, for this year’s event.
>
> To ensure we provide another successful aid station, we will be asking for lots of volunteers to come and help out on the morning of 11 December at the Acton Ferry Terminal. More details on shifts and roles to come.
>
> Our aid station will be responsible for handing the runners drinks, fruit, and other nutrition as well as giving them big cheers and lots of encouragement!! I’ve previously assisted on (and have been a competitor running through) the Bilbys aid station and it is amazing to see so many people pushing their bodies to the limit... It's really inspiring and I can personally guarantee that the athletes appreciate the encouragement and support when you cheer them on and assist with their nutritional needs................plus, you'll be able to cheer on all the Bilbys that are racing, including Bilbys own Club President, Jessica Faulks!!
>
> Further information will follow in the lead up to the big race. Make sure you keep the date free in your calendar!!

In her 2nd event since returning to racing, Sarah Richardson showed she is also returning to form by taking 2nd in the women’s 40-44 age group and 12th outright in a hot field with a 4:56:00. > Tour de Femme
> 13 November
> The Tour de Femme is a women’s-only twenty kilometre ride that doubles as both a race and a participation event. In 2011 it will be held on Sunday 13th November. Many of Australia’s top female riders have competed in previous events and are expected to return this year. There are a range of age divisions with separate prizes that are hotly contested each year.

Everyone who enters by the closing date will receive a T-shirt and a water bottle. It is not necessary to have a club or open racing license to enter. Riders from teens to those in their eighties participate.
>
> Race starts at 9am on Sunday 13th November and registration is from 4pm to 6pm on Saturday 12th November at Stromlo Forest Park.

> Multisport Report
> The AR World Champs were in Australia for the first time ever. The race commenced at 9am on Wednesday 2 November, with the start and finish in Burnie Tasmania. The top teams completed the course in just under 6 days with first team, ‘Thule Adventure’ from Sweden, coming in at 19:57 hrs on Monday 7 November. Team ‘I Adventure.com.au’ containing Bilby’s members Aaron Coles and Danielle Winslow, completed the course at 00:25 hrs on Thursday 10 November. Unfortunately, due to a couple of team members succumbing to injury and having to withdraw part way through the event, the team finished the course unranked. Team ‘On the Run-75’ (Lee Rice and Jess Robson) completed the course in 47th at 12:04 on Tuesday 8 November.
> All results including blogs from teams can be found at www.arwc2011.com
>
> Some upcoming events which may interest people include the ‘I Adventure’ Sprint Adventure race which will be held in Canberra in February, Capital Punishment MTB race in March (AROC) and the Sri Chinmoy Triple Tri and Jindabyne Multisport Events. The next race on the AR Calendar is the Max Adventure 12 and 24hr adventure races around Jervis Bay in 2 weeks time. The ACT rogaining association also holds regular events and the Burley Griffin Canoe Cub is also very active and lots of Bilbys are also involved in both these clubs.

> Shane Gould swimming clinic
>
> Females in Training (FIT) will be hosting a swimming clinic run by Shane Gould (1972 Olympian and Australian of the Year) in Canberra on the weekend of 19-20 November 2011 at the AIS pool (see attached document for more information). Shane teaches a method of swimming developed by Milton Nelms which assists athletes to swim with faster times and healthier movement patterns.
> The clinic will benefit all swimmers, whatever your current ability (i.e. you do not need to be an experienced swimmer to participate) and will be held from 10.00-5.00pm on Saturday 19 November and 9.00‑4.00pm on Sunday 20 November (2x 3hr pool sessions with a 1hr lunch break each day). We will be working in 2 groups of ten so each person will have 3 hrs of pool time each day. As you will spend some time out of the water watching other participants, you do not need to be present for the entire time if you have other commitments. Cost is $285 per person. Maximum of 20 participants. FIT may have some spare spots in the clinic and may be able to take participants from other triathlon clubs in Canberra. If you are interested or for more information, please email Angela Rymer (angelatravelling at hotmail.com) as soon as possible.

> Bike for sale
> An entry level men’s road bike (I'm female) ideal for someone looking for a cheap entry level bike or upgrade from a mountain bike. This 50 inch, triple chain wheel, road bike is as per original specifications (primarily Shimano Tiagra) except for an upgrade with a Shimano 105 rear derailleur. To give you an idea of the size, I am 178cm tall (female) but it was a little bit too small for me (even though I stuck with it for years!).
> Also included are pedals (your choice of cage pedals or Shimano SPD-R), the original, shorter stem (handy if you want to fit tri-
> bars, the original Tiagra rear derailleur, the cassette guard off the rear wheel, a Blackburn 'Air Stik' high pressure pump, a
> Cateye bike computer (needs a new battery soon) and the original manual. T he drive train (chain and cassette) is relatively
> new as I haven't ridden it a great deal since both were replaced.
> The bike is 10 years old, but except for the size issue, it served me well, and I've used it for triathlons and many road rides.
> All yours, including the extras, for $350. Feel free to email me for more information or photos at chrisepalmer at gmail.com

> RACE RULES TO REMEMBER!
>
> Knowing your race competition rules is just as important as knowing your equipment or having the right training programme – it will set you off on the right foot, save you time and penalties, but more importantly knowing your rules will ensure the safety of you, and your fellow competitors around you.
>
> We will be publishing a ‘Rule to Remember’ each month on our website in our aim to promote our RCR, so keep an eye out for these updates - we encourage you to share the rules with your training buddies, your club, and anybody you know who is involved in the sport.
>
> Here is a summary of the changes made to the RCR, which are effective as of 1st July 2011:
>
> 1) Speed Suits (Rule 1.2)
> A competitor may wear a speed suit at any time during an event.
>
> A speedsuit must be comprised of 100% textile material such as nylon or lycra and must not include rubberised material such as polyurethane or neoprene. The speedsuit may contain a zipper.
>
> 2) Footwear for the cycle (Rule 3.1)
> Competitors must cycle with appropriate footwear. This was not detailed in previous RCR.
>
> 3) Bicycle Course Time Penalty and Draft Zone Changes (Rules 3.9 and 7.5)
> For all events with a nominal bicycle distance up to and including 40 km, the yellow card time penalty is now 3 minutes, with a draft zone of 7 meters x 3m. Overtaking competitors have 15 seconds to pass through this zone.
> For all events with a nominal bicycle distance greater than 40 km, the yellow card time penalty is now 5 minutes, with a draft zone of 12 meters x 3m. Overtaking competitors have 25 seconds to pass through this zone.
>
> 4) Competitor Behaviour after Being Passed on the Bicycle Course (Rule3.11e)
> Once passed, a competitor must immediately commence to drop back out of the draft zone of the forward competitor before attempting to re-pass.
>
> 5) Race Numbers (Rules 3.6 and 4.3)
> Competitors are required to clearly display their race numbers whilst on the bicycle course and run course. Note that the event’s context and environment will be taken into account by the Technical Official when considering whether to issue a stop/start penalty.
>
> 6) Infringements Table (Appendix B)
> To assist competitors with understanding the ramifications of breaking the rules a table has been included detailing examples of red and yellow card infringements.
>
> Go to the Events and Technical section in Resources for the full Race Competition Rules
