Hi All, researchers at Macquarie University have approached us asking for volunteers for a study they are conducting.  Details follow below…

 

We are currently recruiting for a study investigating the effects of stability (motion control) shoes, orthotics and neutral shoes on the forces acting on your knee. I am hoping that you would be able to share some information and the flyer below with your members in case anyone is interested in participating. The study involves a single data collection where participants will be asked to run in three (3) different types of footwear condition through a capture volume of approximately 20m. The three footwear conditions are a stability shoe, a neutral shoe with orthoses (pair of orthotics) inserted into them and the same orthoses inserted into a stability shoe. We would like you to run between 12km-15km/hour pace, or 5min-4min/km pace, through the capture volume and will need 5-10 repetitions in each shoe. 

Before you run, you will have a series of skin-mounted reflective markers taped to your lower limbs and undergo a series of measurements to calculate the length and width of your lower limbs. These measures, along with ground reaction forces calculated during each run, will be utilised to determine how your body moves and the forces exerted on you knee cap during each footwear condition.

We are looking for anyone who runs on more than one occasion per week and a minimum of 10km per week (total, not each run). They need to be aged between 18 and 50 years and able to attend data collection on either a Tuesday or Thursday during March. We have some flexibility with before and after hours testing.

Proximity Government Business Triathlon

NOW is the time to get your team together!

What better way to kick-start those new-year resolutions than to get a team of [Bilbys, Vikings] mates, colleagues, friends and family together and enter the 2015 Proximity Government and Business Triathlon?

Your team members don’t need to have any experience to have a go at a triathlon – they can be complete ‘novices’. It’s all about getting a group of colleagues or friends together and having a fun, active morning out. It may be just the motivation you need to kick-start your own triathlon plans or just have a fast, fun race!

Two distances: two formats

To cater to both novices and experienced athletes, two triathlon options are on offer: An Enticer which is a 200m swim, 10km bike ride and 2km run. Or the more intensive Sprint option which is a 500m swim, 20km bike ride and 5km run. 

In addition, you can race as a solo competitor, in a relay team (one person per leg) or all team members do each leg in the full challenge.

SPECIAL OFFER: TACT competing members who register with 2 non-TACT members get their entry for free!

There is of course also the ACT Club relay challenge for those who want to race with fellow [Vikings, Bilibys].  While the promo offer doesn’t apply to this category, it is an opportunity to form a team with your training partners and blitz the course.

Volunteers needed for a yoga study PDF Print Email Address *

Hi Bilbys

 

Here is an invitation to particpate in a yoga study. Even if you don't meet the requirements, please feel free to pass along the information to family and friends.

You are invited to participate in a Canberra based study conducted by Zoe Hewett, PhD research student candidate at the University of Western Sydney Campbelltown.

To be eligible to participate in this study you must be sedentary (<150mins/week of continuous aerobic activity), slightly stressed, and have a waist circumference over 80cm for women and 94cm for men.

If eligible to participate, you will be assigned to either a yoga group or a control group. The Yoga group will undertake 3-5 funded classes of Bikram (hot) yoga per week for 16 weeks. If you are in the control group, you will be given a voucher for your participation of 10 yoga classes.
