Changes to ride sessions PDF Print Email Address *

Hello Bilbys,

As you all no doubt know, Gary’s sent his last email as ride coordinator in late January.  Thanks Gary for 15 years of hard work!

We will send future ride emails together with our (weekly Sunday) newsletter. You can sign up to our newsletter over on the right hand side of this webpage.

Don’t forget that from March we are required to carry photo ID in NSW. It is, of course, also good a practice to carry details of an in case of emergency contact.

All Bilbys ride sessions are un-coached with no cost to participants. Bunch riding experience is essential. If you do not have experience riding in a bunch, please consider joining our novice program or one of the many cycling skills programs offered by cycling clubs in Canberra.

Finally, we take this opportunity to ask everyone who comes to these bunch rides to ensure that they have appropriate third party insurance - whether that be through Cycling Australia, Pedal Power, home insurance or Triathlon Australia.  For further information, please refer to an article on cycling insurance prepared for us by our valued sponsor Sneddon Hall & Gallop

For people wanting to come and check out the club, we recommend you start by coming along to a Tuesday night running session. These are currently on Tuesday nights at Southwell Park (Lyneham 2) oval for the winter. Lyneham 1 is at the corner of Northbourne Ave and Mouat St and Lyneham 2 is just next door. Car park access is from either Mouat St (west bound) or Thurbon Rd (off Northbourne Ave).  The session starts at 6pm and ends 7:15 to 7:30 pm ish, depending on which running set you decide to do. These are normally our biggest session of the week and you will easily be able to find a coach to speak to and ask questions about the club.

You can also turn up to one of our swim sessions. We recommend you get there a bit early for your first time and chat to the coach before the session. They will be able to answer your questions about the swim session and the club in general.

Our ride sessions are uncoached and require that you already have good bunch riding skills. You will need to be able to ride in a bunch complete with hand signals and the ability to participate in a paceline lead change. We teach these skills each year in our novice program (see below) and other cycling clubs around Canberra sometimes do cycling courses in which bunch riding skills are taught.

Another good way to get into the club is to join in our Novice Program. This runs in October/November each year and is an excellent way to join the Bilbys as our dedicated coaches will look after you every step of the way as we teach you the swimming, riding and running skills to complete a triathlon.

You can come and try one of our sessions for non-member prices and then join the club if you enjoy the session and wish to do more. Membership involves joining Triathlon ACT (either a competing membership for $125 or a non-competing membership for $5) and then selecting Bilbys as your club and paying our $35 membership fee. Note that the non-competing Triathlon ACT licence does not allow you to race in triathlon and doesn not offer insurance for you or anyone you may injure in training.

Change to Membership Renewal Process PDF Print Email Address *

Dear Bilbys Members

As you will recall from this time last year, Bilbys agreed to implement the compulsory membership model whereby membership of Triathlon Australia (TA) became a compulsory part of Bilbys membership.  This was to support the governing body of our sport and also to make sure that the club had insurance through our affiliation with Triathlon Australia.

At that time we still had Bilbys memberships on our website, meaning that members had to sign up and pay on the Triathlon ACT website and then on our website as two separate transactions.

We have now combined with the Triathlon Australia membership process so that you can sign up for both your TA and Bilbys membership in a single transaction.  You will then receive a TA membership card that lists Bilbys as your chosen club.  This card will be your membership card for both TA and Bilbys and your membership for both will run from 1 July to 30 June each year.

To renew your Bilbys membership, please go to the membership section of the Triathlon ACT website and follow the links:

http://www.triathlon.org.au/Membership/Annual_Membership.htm

Please note this method is now the only method you will be able to use to join Bilbys or to renew your Bilbys membership as we can no longer accept memberships on our website or through the old paper form.  With the TA membership component, you have  the choice of a $125 competing licence or a $5 non-competing licence.

We will therefore no longer hold the club sign on day, but will combine the collection of your membership t-shirts with our Annual General Meeting (currently scheduled for Saturday 15 August).

If you have any questions about the new membership model, please feel free to contact me or one of our committee members.

Cheers
